Kavanagh’s writing career began in the waning years of the Irish Literary Renaissance, which coincided with the rise of nationalism and pride in Ireland and it’s culture and heritage. Those were the seeds that eventually led to Ireland’s independence. Unlike Yeats or Pierce or even Douglas, don’t look too deeply into Kavanagh’s work for hidden meanings or metaphors. His poems and writings were from the heart.
