Columbus lacks a documented history of hurling, camogie, or Gaelic football teams from the 19th or 20th Century, though the sports were undoubtedly played at least as recreational activities by Irish immigrants and their children. That all changed in 2011 when enterprising Irish Americans formed the Naughten Street Gaelic Club.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade (and dying green of the Chicago River) in Chicago should be a cultural requirement for all Irish Americans. In our trip to the City this year, we stayed in the Financial District, producing the wonderful people watching experience of celebratory train passengers exiting the downtown Amtrak station from Milwaukee and Philadelphia draped in their green, before they headed off for a myriad of shenanigans on the Saturday morning of the parade.

Lúnasa spends early March in Ohio, with stops at the beautifully restored Holland Theater in Bellefontaine, an hour northwest of Columbus, on March 6, followed by a show at the Shamrock Club March 11. New York City’s newest Irish Rock sensation The Narrowbacks return to the city following their debut performance at the 2025 Dublin Irish Festival. They play Saturday night, March 14, at Byrne’s Pub.
