Ireland and the Making of America
The EPIC Museum in Dublin tells the story of the Irish diaspora. In honor of America, the museum developed an exhibit that highlights the role of the Irish in the making of America from our early days to the present.
As America commemorates our 250th Anniversary, this exhibition offers a timely opportunity to recognize the contributions made by generations of Irish men and women who have made a profound influence in our county’s history.
They helped build and defend our country while preserving the rich traditions of their Irish heritage. The EPIC Museum is collaborating with the Irish Consulates in making this Exhibit available.
I am privileged and honored to be the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians representative to Irish America 250. This past April, I was able to have a conversation with Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason in regard to the display. The LAOH was granted permission to reproduce the exhibit for the National Hibernian Convention this month in Omaha.
I am very appreciative of this opportunity and would like to share with the Irish Community in the Midwest:
On Saturday June 27, the Cleveland GAA hosted a full day of matches with teams of the Midwest. What a perfect time to host the exhibit at the West Side Irish American Club, and also to offer a toast to America in the pub.
The exhibit was at the West Side Irish American Club on June 26 and 27th. On Thursday July 2, the exhibit will be at the Irish America Club East Side. Plans are also being made have the exhibit at the Akron Hibernian Club.
I am grateful to be able to share this exhibit to the Irish community and the Hibernians at the National Convention. This exhibit will inspire those that view it to reflect on the enduring bond between Ireland and America and the many Irish Americans whose courage, faith and determination shaped our country.
On this Independence Day, remember the signers of the Declaration that were Irish and those who participated in revolution. Remember to share the stories of the many Irish Americans who have contributed to the building of our country.
This year, there will be many celebrations including parades and fireworks, but always remember that there is much more to do and we still need to take actions that assure America and the principles of our Founders continue for many more years. Live the words of God Bless America.
