I and I, Eye for Eye
Since moving to the desert, it’s been an interesting journey. We escaped the harsh Chicago winters in favour of the intense desert heat of summers. I suppose wherever you move, there will always be challenges.
And yet, despite those things that might irk us, there are enough positive things to keep us in our right minds, if that’s even possible these days. The present administration presents us with a clear demonstration of how human beings peddle their self-interest above everything else.
We see this in action every day the White House issues yet another missive to please Bozo. Not satisfied with starting a war with Iran, he’s worried that his ballroom won’t be finished by the time he’s gone. If he has a legacy to pass on, it will be one of petty revenge and incompetency.
His gospel of rank selfishness should rankle any believer in goodness. I’m sure Bozo would have the good lord himself in court or in prison. The Beatitudes sound like woke to me, and no doubt, would be considered seditious. Forget the whole forgiveness thing, especially if you have enough power and wealth to get your own back.
It’s the way of nature, and yet, there are times when nature surprises us. On this occasion, a goose – I’m not sure it was male or female- decided it was their duty to protect the mother duck and her brood. It was remarkable to see. This goose had given up its place among the flock to care for a creature that was not one of their own.
It amazes me that anyone who believes in goodness would ever find Bozo an example of faith. His despicable ruthlessness runs counter to anything close to goodness. When he chooses to pick a fight with the Pope, two of his disciples (both of whom are a pale shade of Catholic) rush to defend him.
It seems that power is worth more than righteousness. To the Pope’s credit, he refused to play games with the Orange tyrant. Instead, the church leader chooses not to engage with the clown’s overinflated ego.
My intense dislike for Bozo is rooted in what I’d term a battle between good and stupidity. On the one hand, I hear his followers talk about Jesus as if he’s a Disney character. He’s a bumper sticker or he’s the one to condemn you to hell if you didn’t vote for Bozo.
It makes me wonder if any of them have ever read a thing that has been attributed to Jesus. On the other hand, some have allowed the words of Christ to affect how they live their lives.
They care about those who are locked up in ICE facilities. The needs of others less fortunate are not sidelined for a stronger stock market. They rally in vast numbers to demonstrate their disgust at Bozo’s rampant selfishness.
A couple of years ago, I witnessed something I’d never seen before. We live near a golf course where there is a pond. At a certain time of the year, the ducks make use of this pond. It is not unusual to see a mother duck with her little ducklings enjoying this pond.
The world they inhabit is full of dangers. There are hungry animals around ready to take advantage of the ducks’ vulnerability. You might see 6 ducklings one day, and fewer the next day.

For weeks, we would see this goose side by side with the duck family. It wasn’t until the ducklings were grown that the goose left the brood. What its motivation for doing such a good deed was will never be known.
I can only say that I’d never seen anything like it before. If the natural world can provide us such a clear example of altruism, why can’t humans? One thing is clear, we won’t find it with this present administration.
Bozo loves to mock the afflicted, ridicule those he considers inferior, and threaten anyone whom he considers a challenge.
The example he sets should be anathema to the believer, but it’s not. They are those willing to overlook his selfish, petty politics to get what they want. It is sort of pragmatism that does not engender goodness. Instead, it smacks of self-interest.
They are happy to placate Bozo providing he gives them what they want. If he diminishes civil rights, or imprisons people, it doesn’t matter. It makes no difference if he commits crimes while he’s in office.
Morality is a flexible friend to those who support Bozo. You can turn and twist it until it does what you want it to.
I hope that we find a goose among them who might be moved by the needs of those who do not occupy a position of strength. Whatever it was that triggered that response in the goose must surely lie in us too.
Wouldn’t it be something to find a goose in his administration to challenge the lies he spins? I’m not beyond hoping that those who claim some sort of faith will have the scales fall from their eyes, and see Bozo’s criminality. Perhaps, they need to visit an ICE facility, or be with those who suffer at the hands of the bumbling oaf they are propping up.
Jesus was a goose in his time. His attitudes were different to those in the political and religious establishments. His concern for the poor and disenfranchised set him apart. What he did was in opposition to the attitudes of those in power, and it didn’t go unnoticed.
Can you imagine how this present administration would treat him? I wonder which ICE facility he would end up in. Would he even survive his imprisonment? And, if he did survive, I’m sure they would crucify him on Truth Social. Bozo, with the help of A.I., would conjure up a nice little reel of the Orange man defecating on the truth seller.
