Mary B. Singer
(9/1/1930 – 5/2/2026)

Mary B. Singer (née McCarthy), following a brief illness, passed away peacefully at her home in Mayfield Village, Ohio, on May 2, 2026, at the age of 95. Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Born on September 1, 1930, in Cloontabonniv, County Clare, Ireland, Mary emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 18, where she built a life defined by hard work, perseverance, and commitment to others. After arriving in Cleveland, she worked in retail, office management and later became the first female sales manager in the semiconductor industry. She and her husband owned and operated Superior Electronics.

Mary was a lifelong volunteer whose generosity touched countless lives. Over the years, she served on fundraising committees for numerous organizations supporting local families in need, Project Children for peace and unity in Ireland, The Holy Family Cancer Home, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, and many other charities. She also served on Mayfield Village committees, worked with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, drove Holocaust survivors to medical appointments, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a devoted supporter of the Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival and volunteered as a greeter and hospitality committee member at St. John of the Cross Church. Mary was the recipient of the Hillcrest Rotary Club Outstanding Humanitarian Award and was recognized as Jewish Family Service Association Volunteer of the Year. Mary’s life reflected her deep devotion to her husband, the late Mervin Singer and her enduring love for her family, who loved her deeply in return. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Barnes Pfiffner (Tim), Kathleen Gaertner, Bink Gaertner, Pattie Simcic (Michael Wolfe), Laurie Singer, and Mollie Sachs. She was a cherished grandmother to Megan McKenzie (Rich), Kelly Pfiffner (Stephen Knowles), Erin Gaertner, Mary-Kate Grant, Lisa Sachs, and Aaron Sachs, and a proud great-grandmother to Adelley MaryTess McKenzie, Peyton McCarthy Grant and baby girl McKenzie expected in June 2026. Sister to James McCarthy (Susan, deceased) and Catherine Josephine Farrance (Derrick, deceased), and sisters-in-laws Christina McCarthy, Bobbie Singer and Betsy Singer. She was also a beloved cousin and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her “chosen family” included her neighbors, Derek and Nicole McDowell, and their children, Maebelle and Holden. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Andrew McCarthy and Teresa (née Haren); her brothers, Sean, Christopher, Thomas, Andrew, and Gerard McCarthy; and her brothers-in-law, Sidney and Fred Singer. Mary was a remarkable woman who was loved and respected by all who knew her. Her kettle was always on, and the teacups were kept close at hand. Mary knew how to brew the perfect conversation: she listened attentively, encouraged others to share their stories and emotions, and empathized deeply with their experiences. A friend recently compared Mary to a lighthouse — steadfast through the storms and challenges of life, while her love served as a beacon, welcoming and guiding all who were fortunate enough to know her. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held Friday, May 29th, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church 140 Richmond Road, Euclid, OH. Friends and family will be received beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at Stream at: https://sjceuclid.com/livestream-masses Interment at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens. COLLEEN B. MOORE (nee Joyce), age 48, dearly beloved wife of 22 years of Bryan A.; loving mom of Molly, Thomas and Colin; daughter of the late Rita (nee Cregan) and Patrick J. Joyce; cherished sister of John Joyce (Mary), Jeanie Norman (Eddie), Maggie Flynn (Michael “Lefty”), Joe Joyce, Patrick “Whitey” Joyce, Kathy Reilly (James), Dennis Joyce (Brittany) and Eileen Mazur (Dave); much-loved aunt, niece, cousin and dear friend of many.  

Colleen passed away June 5, 2026 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Ames Family Hospice House, 30080 Hospice Way, Westlake, OH 44145.
