
Mark Owens, Honorary Consul of Ireland in Cleveland is the driving force behind bringing the movie The Day Innocence Died: Bloody Sunday and the Fight for Justice. Mark Owens a native of Derry who resides in the Cleveland area is committed to strengthening the bonds between Ireland and Northeast Ohio. He reached out to John Carrol University, the Mayo Society of Cleveland and the local divisions of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians to assist in supporting this important documentary bringing its message of truth, remembrance and justice to an American audience. The special screening will take place on Monday, September 28, 2026, at John Carroll University Dolan Auditorium in University Heights, Ohio. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. with light refreshments; movie at 7pm followed a panel discussion featuring voices from both sides of the Atlantic.

We are honored to support this event and are proud to announce that National Freedom for All Ireland Chair Rita O’Hara will represent the LAOH as a panelist following the first United States screening of the powerful documentary. Her participation reflects the LAOH’s steadfast commitment to preserving the truth of Bloody Sunday, standing with the families and supporting the continuing pursuit of justice, accountability and lasting peace in Ireland. As National Freedom for All Ireland Chair, O’Hara leads the LAOH’s efforts to educate its members and the wider American public about justice, human rights and peace in Ireland. Her participation will bring an important Irish American perspective to the panel discussion and reaffirm the historic relationship between the people of Ireland and the United States.
