To all our beautiful mothers, and those who filled that role so beautifully,
we wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day!
The Ancient Order of Hibernian History Tour to Ireland was flat-out amazing. To visit so many of the places I have been reading, writing and singing about for decades, in person … the whole trip felt surreal. Organized by AOH National President Sean Pender, with detailed and illuminating narration along the way by AOH Historian Dan Taylor: Wolfe Tone, Vinegar Hill, Doniel O’Connell, St. Mullins, The National 1798 Rebellion Centre, Annie Moore Statue and more at the Cobh Heritage Center …

It wasn’t all past, the present was fully celebrated too, with stops to explore other places like Clashganny, the Barrow Way, Blanchfield’s Pub and O’Shea’s Pub, the Kindred Spirits Memorial to the Choctaw Native Americans, Middleton Distillery … yes, the list does go on and on, but I won’t. You get the flavor.
Then to have an unexpected opening of time in Dublin that allowed me to spend a wonderful afternoon with my Aunt Ann and my cousins, was the final cherry. Loads of pictures and stories from the trip will be added to the website as time allows, so check them out at your time allows, at iirish.us.
The fantastic organization of the trip, the honest financial dealings start to finish are a far different experience from my last trip, with Tim Vaughn, – I can’t stress enough that you book with an honest provider like Pat Hollywood’s Travel Connection or JEM travels Mary Pat Flanagan – it makes all the difference in the world.

Our efforts to move forward Irish Unity and the Unification of Ireland continue. We include the announcement of the next Unification People’s Assembly, in Cincinnati on May 29th, and the showing of the documentary, Murder of a GAA Chairman, and Q & A with Director Trevor Birney and family Lawyer Niall Murphy on May 31st (see the notices on this page).

We also include a wonderful tribute to Francis by Vaiva Neery, on Page 4.
The legend, Mike Finn, our Illuminations column Historian celebrates 18 years with us this month. He is facing a few health issues, so is taking some time off – Mike has never missed a column in his 18 years with us; I learn a little more each month from him. Please keep Mike and Marian Finn in your prayers for good health and full recovery.
With the loss of Francis McGarry written about last month, we postponed mention but celebrate no less the iIrish Anniversaries of Terry Boyle’s 15th, Karen Bennett & Shannon Thomas-Ziemnik’s 1st, Katherine Duplisea’s 1st, and Terry Kenneally’s 18th.
Looking forward to the release of Tom Kaschalk’s new book, Cleveland’s Neighborhood Taverns: A Pub Crawl Through History. You will love Tom’s Irish and not stories from the hood, by an author whose own story would make a fascinating book. More news and a book signing Q & A with Tom to come.

See the What’s the Craic?, Taking the Fields of Glory, pages within for all craic, and the details too. There is so much more inside, but we greatly appreciate your thoughts, feedback, comments, and shares.
iIrish is made in America. We have always been green and are proudly Irish, all year long.
