Irish Unity People’s Assembly: Diaspora

Continuing the Conversation

Hello,

Back in October, 2024, we started hosting events designed to connect, share, and listen to the ideas about Irish Unity held by the Irish Diaspora in the United States.

We started in Cleveland, OH, moved on to Columbus, OH, then hosted events in Washington, DC, and Rockland County, NY. In that time more than 670 people registered and engaged with the questions: What does Irish Unity meant to you? Who are the key governmental actors in the work of achieving unity? What is the role of activists in that work?

The answers and conversations you jumped into in small groups were thoughtful, focused on action, and only the beginning.

Over the next couple of months we will continue those discussions in monthly Zoom meetings that will bring together people from all Diaspora-focused Irish Unity People’s Assemblies.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 7:00 pm EasternTo join the call, click here: https://zoom.us/j/92670037101

You do not need to attend all meetings – join us for the calls you are able to attend. They will not be serial, and there will be new readings, study topics, and updates on every call.

We look forward to seeing you and to continuing the conversation.

Irish Unity ~ Ireland
Irish Unity ~ Ireland 2030 – What Can I Do for a United Ireland from America?

What to expect:

  • A one hour zoom call to connect with other activists in the country who are working to advance the cause of Irish Unity, get an update on the latest progress, and if there is time, discuss an article focused on Irish Unity.

How to prepare:

  • Read this article and be prepared to discuss it with others in small groups: Majorities in North and South favour planning for Irish unity
  • If you’ve made progress with any of the plans you crafted since the last call or at the People’s Assembly and want to share with people on the call, you can prepare to speak about that for no more than 3 minutes.
  • Some Norms that were established last call:
    • Cameras on – we’re building and growing a national network of activists together and it’s more effective when we can see each other.
    • Mute when not sharing – we had more than 26 people on the last call and it all goes much more smoothly when there’s one speaker at a time.
    • We start and end on time – multiple time zones, schedules, and availabilities all need to come together to make these calls work, and we want to honor everyone’s time by starting and finishing on time.
