Sinn Féin raises concerns with British Secretary of State Hilary Benn over legacy legislation – Finucane

A Sinn Féin delegation, led by John Finucane MP, met Thursday with British Secretary of State Hilary Benn to discuss the legacy framework. Speaking after the meeting, the North Belfast MP said he had raised a series of serious concerns with Hilary Benn following the publication of legislation in the British House of Commons yesterday.

A President for All

The Irish Presidential election at the end of October was one of the points of conversation. This week, nominations for the position closed, and three names will be on the ballot paper: Heather Humphreys, a former Irish Government Minister, is supported by her party Fine Gael, Jim Gavin, a former Dublin Football manager, is supported by Fianna Fáil, and Catherine Connolly, who is an independent TD from Galway.

Three-way Race for Irish Presidency Confirmed as Maria Steen Misses Out

Fianna Fail candidate Jim Gavin and Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys filed their nomination papers last Friday. Independent candidate Catherine Connolly, who is supported by left-wing parties Sinn Fein, the Social Democrats, Labour, People Before Profit and the Greens, submitted the documentation on Tuesday.
