Baseball Ireland submitted a bid to host the Under18 European Qualifier tournament and was chosen as one of the two sites; Zurich, Switzerland is the other host country/city.
The dates for the tournament are July 27-30, 2023 and games will be played at the Ashbourne Baseball Complex northwest of Dublin. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the 2024 European Championship. Three countries along with Ireland will compete in Pool Play games and the two teams with the best record will play in the Championship game on Sunday.
The 18U EC qualifying tournament schedule:
Thursday, July 27- Day 1
Game 1 – Slovakia vs Poland
Game 2 – Ireland vs Croatia
Friday, July 28 – Day 2
Game 1 – Croatia vs Poland
Game 2 – Ireland vs Slovakia
Saturday, July 29 – Day 3
Game 1 – Croatia vs Slovakia
Game 2 – Ireland vs Poland
Sunday – July 30
Championship Game #1 vs #2 seed.
The 18U team roster will be made up of players ages 15-18 years of age who have Irish Heritage from the United States, Netherlands and Ireland. The Head Coach will be Cleveland’s own Jay Murphy, assisted by Tommy Murphy, Adrian Kelly and Frank Andrews. This past year the 18U competed in the European Championships that was held in the Czech Republic.
