Farewell to My Nikon: Midwest GAA Championships, Mirrorless Dreams, and iIrish Memories

Summer's Sunset

Here’s my story, sad but true
About a camera, that I once knew
She took my lenses and ran around
to every pitch and, to every town

Hurt, Hurt … R.I.P. Nikon D7100, 10 goooood years …

Janie Mac, have you seen the price of a new DSLR camera? Heading toward a new mirrorless one, but … but … Lordy!

Back in May, I suggested we make this a summer to remember. It surely has been that for iIrish. How about for you?

The Midwest GAA Championships were held August 3rd & 4th, this year at the @ErieSportsCenter in Erie, PA. It was a fun weekend of great matches, people and our rich culture.

Teams from the Midwest competed to win their division, to qualify for the United States Gaelic Athletic Association (@USGAA) U.S. Finals, held August 16-18, this year in San Francisco.

See how the Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and other Midwest Division teams (Akron Celtic Guards; Albany Rebels GAA Gaelic Football and Hurling Club; Buffalo Fenians GAA; Buffalo na Fianna; Cincinnati GAA; Columbus GFC; Detroit St. Anne’s Club; Detroit Wolfetones; Kalamazoo GAA; Rochester Gaelic; Syracuse Gaelic Club) placed within, as well as a few pics – many more are on the endless room website iirish.us.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye … Have You Heard the News?

Cleveland Saints Men’s Hurling brought home the Junior C National Championship Cup at the US Nationals in San Francisco, August 18th.

…More on other Midwest division news online or in the next issue!

We had a fantastic iIrish Meitheal Staff Party (pron. Mee Hawl, an Irish expression word that means a group of people working together for a common cause).

We could not be more fortunate than to have such a great team here, working toward our common goal of preserving, presenting, and promoting our rich Irish culture to all.

What happens at iIrish parties, stays at iIrish parties … but, Janey MAC!

Speaking of the website, Johnny’s Lament was the long, long, long delay on getting the new website up and running. It is finally in place, at www.iirish.us.

iIrish Merch Store

But that is not all, faithful reader and supporter. The long-awaited iIrish Merch Store has launched as well, in the same place!

Fun and funny T-shirts, Crews, and Hoodies are now available, with more styles, colors, and surprises coming with your feedback.

Please check out our site and Merch Store, your feedback will make it great. Mistakes? Omissions? Suggestions on the website and Merch Store? We would love to hear from you.

The festival season soared, with favorite bands and a few new ones making their mark this summer – a record 21 Irish, Celtic, and American festivals joined iIrish for the 17th Annual Festival Focus series that ran all summer.

The music ignites our soul, and the memories (for me, more than 39 years of Cleveland Irish Festival and our ever-growing family making their mark at the festival are a favorite, fulfilling lynchpin and foundation for us all).

The Unification of Ireland

Over the past six months or so, we have been asking a few questions about the unification of Ireland – your thoughts, desires, and cautions, and included a few graphics about it. There was and is a reason for those asks.

On Tuesday, October 8th, iIrish will proudly host The People’s Assembly for the Unification of Ireland, at the West Side Irish American Club.

Irish Representative Dáire Hughes, MP, will be present to brief on the effort, the progress, and the next steps. A Q & A will follow.

This is an Eventbrite ticketed event, at no cost. Ticket availability and link to secure tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/989722786497.

Without exception, NO admittance will be granted without a ticket.

There is so much more inside. iIrish is made in America. We have always been green and are proudly Irish, all year long.
