Hello Hurling and Hello Songs, Stories & Shenanigansthe New OhioIANews Podcast

by John O’Brien, Jr. @Jobjr

The April issue is now complete. I’m still so struck that Cleveland and Akron, as well as parades throughout the US, and Ireland, were cancelled. But as time passes and the virus, and closing, spread, I know, though very hard for the organizers, were the right decisions.  I am only aware of two times in which the Cleveland parade has been delayed; I don’t believe it has ever been cancelled before, in my lifetime.

It is reassuring to see the government finally taking the coronavirus seriously too.  We cannot mess with the health of so many, let alone the young, or infirm, who cannot fight coronavirus on their own.

This is a full, rich issue, with great stories in sports, history, the impact of Irish women, book reviews, learning Irish, recipes and more.  Let us know what you like best. Or just let us know you are ok.  You are way more important than our product. Teach Peace.

So delighted to meet Damon Margida, who is starting a new Cleveland Hurling team.  Hurling is often called the Clash of the Ash; Hurling, not Gaelic Football, is the national sport of Ireland. Working with Cleveland St. Pat’s Gaelic Football Club (GFC), Damon is very experienced as a Hurling player and coach and looks forward to developing Cleveland Hurling for all that are interested.

A special congrats goes out to Cindy Barber and Mark Leddy, Co-Founders of the Beachland Ballroom, celebrating their 20 Year Anniversary. The Legend lives on, in Cindy and Mark. The story is within. We are so fortunate to have them in our community, and our community is so much better for their commitment, class and generous souls. Their mark is seen throughout the neighborhood and has spurred such great development form others as well.

Did you hear the new podcast yet? Songs, Stories & Shenanigan’s comes out twice a month, and alternates weeks with the twice a month eBulletin.  Launched on March 17th, Songs, Stories & Shenanigan’s is hosted on WHK 1420 The Answer and our own website: www.OhioIANews.com. Please listen in, join in, engage and share.

You can listen on your car, phone, tablet or website, at any time, day or night. You can listen to five minutes, stop, come back – the pure mobility of the podcasts will allow us to reach more people, with your help.

The first one is only 13 minutes.  It will grow organically and only as needed. Please share the news, recommend if you like it, and send us ideas for topics you would like us to cover, too.  You will love the guest interviews as well.  Each episode is lodged permanently on each site, so you can listen in whatever increments you have available at that moment, any time.
